next time won't you sing with me

we learned the alphabet for the first time as early as age three. it is the foundation for all learning, but last week we relearned the alphabet in an entirely different way--creatively. our photojournalism class was assigned the a to z project, in which we had to take a picture for each letter of the alphabet. the catch was that all 26 pictures had to fit a certain guideline. for example, each photo had to follow the rule of thirds, ten had to 'fill the frame,' five had to be black & white, etc, etc.
here are my three favorite photos...

keep it natural

this photo is one of my favorites because of the colors. i love the way the yellow apple looks against the brown lunch bag. the light that hits the back of the bag and apple adds to this cheery photo.
normal?

so you kind have to know this crazy child to fully understand and appreciate this photo but, i think it does a fine job of capturing her personality. the lighting in the photo wasn't great so i was forced to make the photo black & white. ironically, i love the way it turned out. erin, my model, was goofing off trying to create a 'frame' around her face but, she actually helped me to capture a really fun moment.
zippo

my brother's 12th birthday was this past week. i love this picture mostly because i love cake and fire but, i do have a few more reasons. i think this picture works so well in black & white because of the nostalgic mood it creates. i love how the sprinkles are in focus along with the candle. yummmy...

happy 12th birthday pb!
